From the Comfort Inn to Moving In
Thurs, Jan 31
So yesterday I got together with my lawyer at 10:30, signed a pile of docs, handed over a big fat cheque, and went out and inspected my townhouse with Van Dyk’s site supervisor (Matt). A little late for that but hey, I’ve been on PEI! Besides, Ontario has this complicated Tarion Warranty thingy … Well, never mind that, you don’t wanna know.
At 11 this morning, my lawyer’s office phoned to say the vendor has signed off & I can pick up the keys at Van Dyk’s site trailer (two blocks from my place).
Handing Over The Keys Ceremony (Matt to Mike)
Friday Feb 1
This is the day my appliances arrive. Just before they did, I took some shots of the interior — looks a little barren without furniture!
Cobourg has a great downtown park and beach. It was freezing cold & windy on Friday when these shots were taken, but it’ll be great in the summer!
Sunday, Feb 3
I moved out of the Comfort Inn today even tho all my stuff is still in Moncton (arriving Wed). However, the Bell fibre op guy hooked up my Internet, phone and TV yesterday and today my appliances were installed. And let’s face it: if you have TV and a fridge, what else do you really need?
Well, you don’t need a bed, that’s for sure. This $30 addition is my temporary bed, and sofa (tip: you just let some air out and it folds sofa-style nicely).
I guess remaining posts will be few & far between — maybe some “after” shots once I get this place shipshape. I’ve been very fortunate thus far ’cause everything has been proceeding tickedy boo.
Til later… Cheers!
ON THE ROAD

I’ve been staying with my good friends Myron & Nancy Yates the last few days, but the big day has arrived and I’m about depart. In this shot, I’m gazing at the distant horizon, seeing what’s ahead. I suppose this habit comes from my naval background. I spent 3 years in the Sea Cadets, rising to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class!
Spent Sunday night at the Comfort Inn Rivière du Loup. I was storm stayed at this motel on Dec 31, 1999. That’s right, I welcomed the New Millenium here, with deppaneur wine and a pizza.
Mon JAN 28
I drove 900 K’s today and the last half was just nasty! Severe blowing snow near Montreal and wicked freezing rain between there and Cobourg. Saw several accidents & cars off the road.
Arrived in Cobourg at 6:30 pm. Here’s a funny thing: I have a CD, Radiohead’s “Kid A”, stuck in my car’s CD player so it’s the only one I ever hear. I know all the lyrics. Anyway, I turned it on as I was pulling into Cobourg, and playing was the song “How to Disappear” with the refrain “This isn’t happening, this isn’t happening, I’m not here, I’m not here….”
Actually, for the next week or so (until my stuff arrives), I’ll be staying at the Comfort Inn in Port Hope, less than 10 k’s away. . They gave me a nice ‘complementary upgrade’.
Tues, JAN 29
1st view of my new place! I don’t get to see the inside until I take possession on Thursday.
